The second week of Senior Project proved to be full of nit picky details. This week was the most time we put into the project working from Mon-Sun taking Wednesday off. These details could be done quickly leaving us with extra time that we were not able to do other things because we didn’t know how to do them. This limited us from moving on to another part of the project, which also cost us some time.
Starting at the beginning of the week we had only two walls of the structure done and in this week we were able to complete all the walls. The past two days have been the most productive. Yesterday we were able to get all the siding on and finish the roofing to prepare it for the shingles. Today we were able to get all but a couple of the shingles on because we ran out of shingles. We also finished closing up the structure on the sides of the roof adding the soffit, fascia and the rake. These are pieces of wood that close up the side of the roof so that there is limited airflow through the structure. Tomorrow we will be going back to RP’s to get some wood for the corner boards, which will finish it and make it look more finished.
This week was full of new things. Almost everything was new especially in the past couple days when working on the siding and roofing. There are a lot of little details that help make the bigger picture look perfect. It’s hard to believe that the length of nails for siding can matter in such a big project as this one. But they do because if they go through the wood they create point objects for people to catch cloths on and rip things. As we come to the end of our project we start to look at all the different things we learned about building and detailing. This is really what the project is all about. It’s a time to reflect on what we experienced through building and all the hours that we put into this project.
